This can not be a hotel, it should be a hostel. We booked a twin room, and it was a shared toilet. Unfortunately, the room is close to the streets, and downstairs are several bars. And the windows in this room are like decoration. I heard the noise clearly from the bar until 3 am. If you wanna live here, better to buy some earplugs.
In addition, this hotel’s price is very unreasonable or in other words nonsense. The price does not include the city tax and the ENERGY BILL! (Yep, energy bill, no kidding. I never heard of any hotel charging an energy bill). Btw, I have never been charged an additional fee for city tax in other German cities. The invoice is 70£, but they deducted 76£ from my bank account. 3.5£city tax, 2.5£energy bill. ASTONISHING!
Stayed for 3 nights in a twin (2 single beds) room.
Pros:
The hotel is really conveniently located. Good water pressure even in 3rd floor. Nice all-in-one soap and toilet paper (might be odd to comment on but it matters!😅) . Lovely breakfast with lots of options.
Two normal sized single beds (as opposed to the really narrow ones you find in lots of hotels). One harder and one softer mattress which worked nicely for our needs.
Cons:
Really small room. For 2 single beds we did not have enough space to open our bags. The drawers provided were broken and unuseable. Not enough space.
While sound proofing is good enough for the outside noises. Inside the hotel is paper-thin. You can hear everything, including staff removing things from storage near our room at 3 to 4 am.
The kettle area was not cleaned properly (we didn't use the Shower curtain was mouldy at the bottom.
Good things:
Comfortable bed.
Decent duvet.
Own toilet.
Toilet shared but clean overall.
Somewhat kind receptionist.
Centric location.
Bad things about the accommodation:
1.) Noise isolation from the windows and the interior building is horrible, if you face the side to the clubs and bars pub, good luck. You will share the toilet and will repeatedly hear people going out of their rooms there and talking in the hallway. Barely got any sleep.
2.) They will charge something called ´Energiekostenzuschuss´aka living cost energy fee or something like that and the city tax separately from the final booking price. I have been in multiple hotels in Germany and all of them had the city tax included in the final price, and none had this living cost bs. Expect 6e additional. So I booked the hotel for 70e and in the end got 76e charged. I booked it from their website and there was no email 24h prior for any sort of clarification of where that 6 additional euro charge came from. I had to enquire directly from the reception to know.
3.) When I checked in, the receptionist asked me to pay again even though they had already charged my card. BE CAREFUL and double check that you have been charged before. I let him know that I already paid and showed him the card statement, otherwise he would have kept asking for payment.
4.) Horrible pillows, if you can call that pillow is just like a huge rucksack of feathers and so damn high. If you sleep with it you will easily develop forward head syndrome within a couple of weeks.
Will I recommend this? Absolutely no.
There was hair & debris in all three of our beds when we arrived.
There was also bodily fluids on the velour bed cover, one of the decorative pillows, & the desk chair. The front desk apologized & assured us they would get the sheets changed while we were out at the Christmas market, but when we returned the sheets had been straightened & the bed cover folded & put to the side, but not changed for new linen. I showed the front desk a photo of the same exact hair & debris in the same exact location & she said she would call someone else to change the sheets - see attached split screen image of debris before & after the sheets were supposedly changed. I explained that we were already told the sheets would be changed, but a dishonest person did not do this, but made it look like it had been done.
I was not comfortable with staying the night in this filthy place given their cleaning practices & instead purchased a room at another hotel for the night. We informed the front desk of our desire to check out before leaving. The hotel refused to refund any of the money for our stay despite us trying our best to politely resolve the issue.
Perfect location for discovering Köln. Rooms are spacious and tidy, beautiful view. Showering caused a bit of a splash and rainshower was a bit weak. All in all, very recomendable hotel.
I cannot recommend this accommodation to thoughtful travelers!!! They forced us to pay a bill of €250 that we didn't owe. Let me tell you the story.
From the moment of our arrival, the toilet seemed a bit unusual in its operation; something was clearly wrong, but we didn't report it initially. The following day after our arrival, in the afternoon, we noticed that the toilet was filled with "clogged" paper and no longer functioned, so we promptly reported the issue.
Context: There was a sign that explicitly stated not to dispose of cotton, plastic, or objects in the toilet. We adhered to this rule and didn't discard anything, not even paper, precisely because we had observed its somewhat clumsy functioning.
However, when we reported the problem, they accused us of disposing of "something" in the toilet and demanded €250 as payment. They confiscated our room keys and escorted us to our room to retrieve our bank card for payment. Only after we paid were we given new room keys. I find the reception's attitude in addressing the issue very despicable and unacceptable. There was no investigation; they didn't take any action. We attempted to explain what had transpired, emphasizing that we hadn't disposed of anything inappropriately. Several days later, they called in a plumber who discovered that the blockage was caused by a tampon, something we couldn't have thrown away. The case remains unresolved, and I'm still awaiting communication from the manager. I called to inquire about the plumber's bill—a bill they unfairly coerced us into paying.
Furthermore, I must mention that there is limited ventilation in the room. It's not a suitable place to stay during the summer, as it becomes excessively hot in the small room.
I'm uncertain if we will receive a refund, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this terrible experience with all of you.
the room is ridiculously small. they put two beds where there is not enough space.
The worst thing is that it was cold in the room but the old-fashioned bathroom …
Hotel is very well located, next to the river, plenty of surround restaurants and bars. Not far from the train station and the cathedral. …
